EMG BTS Control

I replaced the passive EQ on my Daion Power XB (2 vol, 2 tone pots) to replace the 2 tone pots.

It unleashed a new set of tones and restored the treble; the old passive EQ only did a treble cut, now I have bass boost/cut and treble boost/cut. There was no need to cut the bass body or drill holes. I did fit a battery box in the rear cover plate to make things easier. Battery life with my EMG pickups and the BTS on the same 9v seems good.

Unless you replace everything you will need to do some soldering; the plug and socket wiring is fine if your existing pots / pickups have them. It's not difficult soldering though. As a bonus the new pots are considerably smaller than the old ones so it left room for the battery inside the cavity.

This is a simple and effective great value bass preamp. I had it installed into my Tony Thompson Quadra ( Jazz style) bass. It comes into its own in live on stage use, nice punchy tone that cuts thru mix nicely particularly when bass fitted with steel roundwound strings, I previously had a couple of high-end alternatives that cost twice as much, one was noisey, one was faulty. This retrofit brought new life back to my favourite Jazz bass. Highly recommend. I have used very many active basses and this gives the best bang for buck in my opinion

Passt perfekt zu (m)einem EMG MusicMan Tonabnehmer, wie ich finde. Also klanglich haut das Setup MMTW->BTS sehr gut hin. Selbst ohne EQ knackt der MMTW schon fein und liefert einen sehr guten modernen Bass Sound und mit EQ kann man den Wumms mit dem Bassregler ordentlich anheben. Das Prinzip des Treble Reglers finde ich auch sehr gelungen. Hier kann man die Grenzfrequenz des Filters in 4 Modi wählen. Was dabei gut kommt ist die Möglichkeit nicht nur Höhen bei entweder 5kHz oder 7kHz zu wählen sondern auch mal tiefer um 2kHz und das gibt dann nicht nur einen brillanteren Klang sondern, da die hohen Mitten auch betroffen sind, einen durchsetzungsstärkeren Klang.

In Kombination mit einem EMG (da ja alle aktiven ein geschlossenes Gehäuse haben) hat das den Vorteil, wie ich finde, dass dadurch die Anschlaggeräusche nicht zu scharf sind, man aber doch heller und presenter klingt. Nicht das diese Art von Basssound für jede Situation angemessen wäre, aber die Sache ist doch die, dass wenn man sich so einen Elektronik in seine Axt einbauen will, dann doch dafür flexibler zu sein. Und das funktioniert hier mit dem BTS für die Möglichkeiten eines 2 Band EQs sehr gut.

Bässe matschen nicht (natürlich auch abhängig vom verw. Tonabnehmer) und die Höhen klingen allgemein weich und musikalisch.

Fazit: Gute Aufrüstung, meiner Meinung nach aber wirklich auf EMG Produkte zugeschnitten.
