Gold Tone M-800+ Octave Mandoline

The mandolin is nicely made, but I've found a few problems that have spoiled my initial experience:
* the strap pin is huge, and doesn't easily fit a strap, even one I specially ordered from the USA
* the strap pin contains the output jack, but the jack is deeply recessed and doesn't positively connect
* the output signal is thin and lacks depth. It might be an impedance problem, but combined with the poor jack design, it's pretty much unusable.
* as noted by other reviews, the factory supplied strings are very high tension, so had to be replaced straight away.

As I type, the instrument is in a queue to be worked on by my local luthier - not what I expect with a new instrument. There are some good points - the acoustic sound is very good, the arch top is attractive, and the other hardware is good quality. The included hard case is good too.

Vorab: Das Instrument ist ein schönes Instrument. von den drei Stücken, die ich de rHand hatte, war keines in Ordnung.
1. Instrument: Der Pickup gab äußerst unsaubere Töne zurück. Habe ich mit der Money Back Garantie zurückgegeben. Rückmeldung von Thomann: Es sei alles in Ordnung gewesen.
2. Instrument: Bestellt, nachdem das erste als B-Ware scheinbar den Laden verlassen hatte. Erster Check: Toabnehmer. Der funktioniert. Danach zur Feineinstellung zum Gitarrenbauer meines Vertrauens gebracht. Halsstab fest und nicht drehbar. Garantiefall, Money back.
3. Instrument: Tonabnehmer gecheckt, funzt so naja. Zum Gitarrenbauer gebracht, läßt sich nach meinen Wünschen einstellen. Gerät behalten.
Ende der Geschichte: Anderthalbjahre später der erste Auftritt mit Verstärkung und der Tontechniker wird fast verrückt. Kaum Output und ein schepperndes Signal. Ich habe mir daraufhin einen K&K Pickup besorgt und bin zum Gitarrenbauer gefahren, der ihn einbauen sollte. Dabei stellte sich heraus, dass in der Brücke ein Loch für den Piezo gefräst war und der Tonabnehmer dort nur hineingelegt wurde. Er konnte sich ohne Druck frei bewegen. Mit dem Unterlegen eines Spanes konnte das Problem behoben werden.
Fazit: Ich mag das Instrument -kann aber jedem nur empfehlen, es direkt nach Erhalt einer intensiven Qualitätskontrolle zu unterziehen und im Zweifelsfall die einfache Money Back Garantie in Anspruck zu nehmen.
