its very hard to tell difference between the different brands of tubes mostly because they are all made in three factories around the world - Slovakia ,Russia and China . its the selection of those that show better values while being measured thats critical . These Mesa Boogie pre amp tubes do have much more defined mid range and they are brighter as compare to the other ones I tried

Bought as Backups

I bought a handful of these as backups for my Mini Rectifier although the 12AX7 is pretty much a universal preamp valve so it could also serve as a replacement in some of my other amps.

No problems when I tested them and it's always good to have backups to hand... you never know when somethings going to go pop and you're left using the house rig!

The Mesa tubes of today are JJ clones, maybe selected but the sound is the same, some like them, not me. The amps are working, yes, the clean sounds are correct but distortion (from preamp or pedals) sounds very dry...

If JJ is correct for you, ok it's 10euros...trust me, the Mesa are exactly the same 3times the price..!!

I put one of these in the v1 position of my Randall RD20H and I heared a very noticeable difference. It's nice and warm, it added more richness and clarity to my tone, definitely an improvement over the default Ruby valve that was in my amp.
