My Xvive U2 set is now 4 years old and have been used on a daily basis. So, no complaints about the quality of the batteries but they don’t last forever.
I ordered a set of replacement batteries and received them (as always) correctly packaged and quick. So far so good.
The replacement is however not that easy! Dismantling these tiny devices requires some degree of precision and patience. The screws are tiny and the screwdriver that was in the package did not fit the screws. Luckily for me, I have a set of micro screwdrivers but I hope that the one in my package was a one off and that others are luckier.
The package comes with several replacement parts as they know that there are breakages possible.
The most dangerous part of this operation is taking the old batteries out. They are stuck with double sided sticky tape to the print board and I mean they are stuck!
My advice is to wiggle the batterie from left to right as far as possible and with great caution.
The cover of these batteries is aluminium foil, so not very protective. If you put a sharp object underneath the batterie to lift it out you take a serious risk to damage the batterie and it can start overheating, even catch fire. So be very careful because these are lithium batteries that can seriously heat up and start a fire when forced.
Once replaced I tested the old batteries in my garden and a simple poke with a screwdriver without using much force, caused a spark. The batterie became so hot that it would burn you if you tried to touch it. You don’t want that to happen indoors!
I honestly think that Thoman should warn potential buyers before they place an order. A question of safety!
However, replacing these batteries with great care is a lot cheaper than buying a new set, so well worth it. But once again BE VERY CAREFUL!
