Electro Harmonix Lizard Queen Octave Fuzz

I watched the video of Josh from JHS design and build this pedal with Daniel Danger. The video was fun, and the pedal in the video sounded like something EHX would have built in the 70s. Then EHX decided to release the pedal, and I toyed with the idea of buying it, but as I have multiple fuzz pedals already, never got round to doing it.
I looked in Thomann, and it had been reduced from £99 to £43, so I decided to give it a go.
Arrived this morning, and I am not disappointed. Build quality is typical EHX, sound wise, it is a very nice fuzz, can be raspy when balance knob is turned to the "Sun", and dark when turned to "Shadow" and everything in-between. Octave knob brings in quite a lot of body when set to the right, and can be toned down by going left to your own preference. Volume controls the overall loudness of the pedal.
I would say this is my second favourite EHX Fuzz after the Big Muffin Pi Triangle, not bad considering I have at least 6 EHX fuzzes now.
The review dropped a star in the features because you have no control over the amount of Fuzz, it is a set amount. I would have liked to roll back the fuzz a little, but it is only a minor gripe.
If you like Fuzz, then you should add this to your collection.

Direkt nach dem Auspacken und Anschließen war ich erst einmal sehr enttäuscht von dem Pedal. Eigentlich wollte ich es sofort wieder einpacken und zurücksenden, da nichts gut klang. Ich habe mir dann aber doch etwas Zeit genommen und die brauchte es auch. Ich musste eine ganze Weile mit dem Pedal experimentieren, bis ich es "unter Kontrolle" hatte. Bei mir funktioniert es besser vor einem ganz clean eingestellten Fenderstyle-Amp als vor einem angezerretenen Marshall. Also genau das Gegenteil von meinem Fuzzface.

Der Fuzz-Grad oder Gain ist fest eingestellt. Wenn man diesen regeln möchte, geht das nur über das Volumen-Poti der Gitarre. Das funktioniert aber nur gut, wenn der Balance-Regler ganz auf Shadow gestellt ist. Geht der Regler in Richtung Sun, wird das Gitarrensignal sehr stark gegatet. Klingt dann recht kaputt, kann aber mal ein interessanter Effekt sein.

Shadow und Sun beschreiben den Balance-Regler sehr gut. Es ist nicht einfach eine Tonblende, sondern verändert den Sound von sehr warm und kompakt hin zu hell und offen. Ich finde alle Einstellungen sehr brauchbar. Der Oktave-Regler blendet die Oktave ein bzw. betont sie, ohne dass es aufdringlich wird. Nur wenn der Regler ganz aufgedreht wird, geht der Effekt ins Extreme, und der Grundton verschwindet völlig aus dem Signal. Dafür mischt sich bei mir leicht im Hintergrund ein Radiosender dazu.

Zusammengefasst: Dieses Fuzz ist sehr speziell und kein Brot-und-Butter-Sound, aber es macht unheimlich Spaß, damit zu experimentieren. Für mich gehen Preis und Qualität vollkommen in Ordnung, darum gebe ich die volle Punktzahl.

Curioso (y FURIOSO) pedal que conviene saber de antemano que no conoce medias tintas: diría que lo que en otros pedales de EHX sería el pote de "sustain" o el "gain" aquí directamente ni existe porque ese parámetro está A TOPE en cualquier posición. El sonido que da es muy peculiar y muy salvaje, desde un velcro hasta una especie de sinte psicodélico... Algo que tengo que mencionar es que hay que probarlo a fondo y, atención, con más de una guitarra si ello es posible: tocando con una tipo tele con corte de graves, resulta que apenas se oía. En mi opinión es un pedal caprichoso, pero con un poco de experimentación (combinando con OD, o incluso EQ), se le encuentran bastantes puntos dulces y tienes un sonido que difícilmente encuentras en ningún otro sitio.
