It holds a microphone just as one would hope.
It seems to be a cheaper, simplified, and slightly less rigid/heavy duty version of the K&M 238 Microphone Support Rail with very similar (but not identical) overall dimensions.
Unlike the 238, this one is made of a single piece of cleverly folded metal (the 238 is two pieces - stand holder and mic bar - welded together. The metal bar used in this one is as wide around the stand mount as on the 238 but is about 4mm wider along the mic mount arm, a little more square edged, fractionally thinner, and the paint finish has a little more texture/is slightly less satin smooth than on the 238. The two bars are the same length but the mic position on this bar is about 5mm further away from the tip of the bar so mixing the two types won't quite give perfectly matched geometries (though it's very unlikely to be an issue in most uses). Also, the mic mounting bolt passes straight through an unthreaded hole in the bar and comes with a rubber washer to keep it in place wheras the 238 has a threaded hole and no rubber washer.
It may not be quite as heavily built but will still probably give a lifetime of normal use.
