Pro-Ject RecordMaster II walnut

A really nice turntable, well built and finely tuned. The cartridge is really good for non audiohiles like myself - you can easily add a better one either way.

The initial setup is kind of boring (setting the weight and anti-skid and all that) but it does pay up :)

Did not use the USB, but the phono pre-amp comes in handy.

This is my second Pro-ject turntable, the first one died of belt drive issues I guess :) Thomman covered the warranty and did a full refund, with which I bought this one so: thanks for your impeccable customer service Thomman!

The product comes well-packed, both from the factory and Thomann.
Made in Central Europe, the build and sound are of good quality. Stylus and cartridge are Ortofon, better than many competitors coming with Audiotechnica's.
It's definitely a step above most customer-grade record players; it comes with a tonearm counterweight, two belts, antiskating weight, a cartridge alignment template.
It allows for playing 33 and 45 rpm without replacing the belt, and 78 by replacing it.
The phono amp sounds good, clear and balanced. A quality RCA cable with ground comes together.
That said, it is not exactly easy to assemble and configure, and misses some conveniences.
There is no phone output, which would have been a deal breaker if I had noticed it before buying it.
The motor doesn't start automatically when you lift the arm neither stops when the disc side is over, the arm doesn't retract automatically, so it keeps running on the record.
You need to place the arm and turn on the motor separately.
The instruction manual is written for those who already know exactly what to do. Assembling and regulating the counterweight and the antiskating is the opposite of intuitive, and the manual is quite bad at explaining it.
I had to find videos on YouTube for other record players to properly setup it and start playing.
Regarding the belts, for instance, it is unclear what to do at the beginning - I installed the two belts, as there was only the instruction "place the belt" in the beginning. Then, in the end, it was explained that the other belt is intended to be used for 78rpm.
I haven't tested the usb out yet, but it is surely welcomed.
In short, it gets you the basics with quality and surpasses competitors at the price range, but it is not the easiest or more convenient to use.

Pro-Ject war ja schon immer dafür bekannt ein minimaoistisches Design mit wenig Funktionen, dafür aber hervorragende Klangqualität zu verbinden! Und auch das ist hier wieder perfekt geglückt!

Einsatz: Der Spieler findet seinen Einsatz im heimischen Wohnzimmer an einer 5.1 Teufel Stereoanlage ohne Phono-Eingang. Ich nutze den eingebauten Phono-Vorverstärker des Spielers, der genau das macht, was es soll. Alternativ, kann dieser auch ausgeschaltet werden - die Option ist klasse.

Die Bedienung: ist mit zwei Knöpfen auf der Oberseite geregelt - Wahl zwischen 33 und 45rpm - mehr braucht man eigentlich nicht. Dennoch hätte ich mir einen allgemeinen "An"-Schalter gewünscht - funktioniert aber auch so.

Sound: Hervorragend! Klar kann man die Nadel nach Bedarf noch aufrüsten, aber das kann man in höheren Preiskategorien ja auch noch - für den Hausgebrauch und für audiophile Hörer ist es dennoch sehr gut, so wie er bestückt ist.

USB: Der Spieler hat einen USB-Ausgang für den Rechner - hier kann mir Audacity oder Logic oder ähnlichen Programmen die Spur vom Spieler aufgenommen werden - die Programme werden nicht mitgeliefert - es gibt aber kostenlose Programme, die hier perfekt funktionieren!

Design: minimalistisch, immer Geschmacksache - ich mags! - Das Echtholz des Gehäuses ist aber ein echter Hingucker!

Fazit: klare Kaufempfehlung für jeden Schallplattenanfänger und auch für jeden, der schon länger dabei ist!
