Die Richwood D-65 VA ist eine sehr solide und vielseitige Westerngitarre.
In der Werkskonfiguration – z. B. mit Phosphor-Bronze-Saiten – eignet sie sich sehr gut als Country- und Begleitgitarre mit einem klaren, modernen, leicht HiFi-PU artigen Klangbild. Lässt sie sich auch live sehr kontrolliert und durchsetzungsfähig einsetzen.
Für ambitionierte Spieler ist sie darüber hinaus eine sehr gute Basis für ein individuelles Soundprojekt.
Die massive Fichtendecke in Kombination mit Palisander (Rosewood) Boden/Zargen und klassischem X-Bracing bietet hervorragende Voraussetzungen für gezielte Modifikationen und klangliche Feinabstimmungen.
Im Rahmen eines Customizing-Projekts lässt sich der Klang erstaunlich weit in Richtung Pre-War / Old-Time / Bluegrass-Sound entwickeln. Die klangliche Annäherung an den Stil von Tony Rice oder Norman Blake ist – mit passenden Saiten, Setup und Detail-Optimierungen – realistisch im Bereich von etwa 80–90 %.
Das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist insgesamt sehr überzeugend, vor allem im Hinblick auf die solide Holzauswahl und die gute Substanz der Gitarre.
