The Electro-Harmonix Effects Interface Hardware Plugin (EIHP) is an elegant solution for those who want to use their guitar/bass FX pedals from within a DAW.
The EIHP hardware essentially creates an FX Send/Return loop so you can access the whole of your pedalboard’s signal chain.
The EIHP hardware communicates with the computer via a USB cable and interacts with the EIHP software which presents as an FX plugin to the DAW.
So no complex routing and cabling, no Reamp or DI boxes, and no use of the In or Out ports of your audio interface.
But not only that, the EIHP can be alternatively configured to let a guitar/bass player use their collection of FX plugins within their DAW from their pedalboard.
And if that’s not enough, the EIHP can also function as a 2-In/2-Out USB audio interface.
The only downside is the power.
The unit can be powered by USB, the supplied power supply or third-party pedal power supplies.
I returned the initial EIHP to Thomann because the Power light on the unit would flash frenetically when connected to the power supply.
Unfortunately the same happened with the replacement EIHP and power supply.
The unit appears to function correctly with other power supplies.
Thomann kindly sent me one of their power supplies as a replacement for the Electro Harmonix one, and that works fine.
