Gotoh 404BO-5 C Bass Bridge

I had this bridge installed by my luthier on my Sire V5 and he said that none of the original holes fit, he had to drill new ones. Furthermore, when it's installed aligned with the string-through-body holes, the saddles are misaligned with the neck (the 5 strings get uncentered, slightly to the right). I'm having mine reinstalled and putting the strings through the bridge instead of through the body to correct this. Also, if using this aligned with the string-through-body holes, the saddle intonation screws have to be cut because they are too long and the neck socket of the bass needs to be adjusted because otherwise the neck sits too high relative to the bridge. It's pretty much the opposite of a direct replacement for a Sire V5 in every aspect.

It's very sturdy and sounds good, though, but I can't say it makes a lot of a difference from the stock bridge.

I was looking for a replacement bridge for my Sire V7 basses. At first, I thought about going with the classic Leo Quan Badass. However, since the Sires come with a string-through body bridges, I decided to try the Gotoh. It was easy to mount, seems pretty solid, and there's a noticeable improvement in sound (much stronger emphasis on the fundamental). I can't think of a single reason not to recommend this product, since it's excellent.

Die Brücke ist solide gemacht und ist sowohl für das Saitenaufziehen auf der Brücke auf dem Korpus als auch für body through geeignet. Ich habe sie für meinen neck through Bass mit body through eingebaut. Passt alles, schöne satte Schwingungsübertragung. Eine eine merkwürdige Kleiniigkeit, die u.U. etwas nerven kann: Die Schrauben für die Saitenreiter von der H, E, und A Saite sind kürzer ca. 0,5 mm als die der D und G Saiten. Damit kann bei den tieferen Saiten der Saitenreiter nicht voll ausgefahren werden bzw. die vorhandenen kürzeren Schrauben durch M3 30mm ersetzt werden. So habe ich es gemacht.

Wirklich schöne und gut verarbeitete Bridge, dennoch stellte sich bei der Montage auf meinen SIRE V7-5 heraus, dass die Konstruktion im Detail echte Schwächen hat.

Wer einen älteren V7-5 hat, dem ist vermutlich auch schon aufgefallen, dass die original Bridge zwar funktioniert, sie durch die ausschließliche Verschraubung am hinteren Ende jedoch nicht über die ganze Fläche am Body aufliegt … und naja, seien wir mal ehrlich: schön ist auch anders. Sire hat das offensichtlich mittlerweile ebenfalls erkannt und mit den neuen Modellen korrigiert. Mit der Gotoh-Bridge lässt sich dieses Problem wunderbar beseitigen. Die String-through
-holes matchen 100% und Platz genug für die neuen Löcher gibt’s ebenfalls. Leider hat die Bridge jedoch zwei eklatante Schwächen: die Madenschrauben zur Höhenverstellung der Saitenreiter sind für eine Bassbridge in der Stärke unterdimensioniert und auf der H-und G-Saite kürzer, bzw. zu kurz. Wer wie ich einen 5-Saiter mit 7.25“ Vintage Griffbrettradius hat wird damit nicht glücklich, auch wenn das bei Kollege LowEndLobster mit einem 4-Saiter scheinbar wunderbar funktioniert hat. Ich habe der original Sire-Bridge jetzt einfach einpaar zusätzliche Löcher verpasst und das Problem so gelöst.
