Excellent replacement for an old product.

I have been trying for around 40 years to find a replacement for a wonderful pair of retractable brushes made by Ludwig that I bought in the 70's/80's ( it was so long ago I can't really remember) in London. They were of such good quality that I still use them.

I am very pleased to say that these JB2 from Rohema are exactly what I have been looking for. The balance is superb and the sound they give is very crisp .The wires seem to be of very good quality steel and I can only hope that they last as well. I can't find any cons so far.

I also have a pair of JB1 wood handled brushes which I have already rated as very good so I am a fan of this make.

Not very versatile
Abandoned Russian Megastructure 25.08.2025
Been playing with the JB 2s for a few weeks now, and here’s how they feel from my perspective:
• First off, if you like to hit hard, these aren’t your friends. The wires dig into the drumhead pretty quickly, and it feels like you lose control compared to regular brushes.
• The wires are super thin, so I’ve already bent one or two just by pressing a little too much. Gotta be gentle with them.
• These brushes are fantastic for delicate, gentle playing. Soft jazz, ballads, and subtle cymbal work really shine with them—they feel really responsive and articulate.
• Tried to push them into funkier grooves or higher-energy sections, and they just don’t cut it.
• If you’re hoping for one set of brushes to handle everything from mellow jazz to funky rock, you might be disappointed. They’re just not versatile enough for that.

All in all, great for light, nuanced playing, but definitely not a one-size-fits-all brush.

it is for very light players (thin wires) and black handgrip tends to do a marks on my snare drum head

Sound nice, badly balanced
duxdelux 11.03.2024
Rohema made the shaft too short on these, so therefore these brushes are too top heavy, you cannot get good articulation or snap out of them. When rudiments are necessary during ballads and up tempo tunes these are much slower than my regal tip classics.
