I hate having bundles of cables lying around.
Especially if it is for permanent connections (where once connected i'll basically leave it in place, like forever).
In my case this goes for a bass cabinet where i have two wireless receivers for two bass guitars, combining into a Behringer Ultralink Pro, splitting the signal into two 1RU bass preamps (1-ch. BBE and 2-ch. Tech21), then mixing these three amp-sections into a single out to the cabinet power amp.
This setup allows me to use ANY amp section separately, or use a combination of any two or all three, with individual level control. It is my dream config, but it entails many connections. With three different cable terminations (XLR-male/XLR-female/Jack6,3) where some of the cables also serve as adaptors.
For this purpose, the availability of a huge variety of patch cables is totally awsome. They have many termination options, but also a large varierty in length, starting from 30cm, through 60cm, etc.
So, although it takes eight patch cables in various configurations, everything still looks very clean and orderly and not one cable is any longer than it needs to be.
Looks nice, but also minimizes microphonic/EMI/etc. distortion.
And all these cables cost me a total of some 35 Euro or so. No need to spend more because, since these are stationary, there will be no wear or tear.
Could i be happier? Hell no!
