Masterwork Troy Cymbal Set

Been using this set for couple of months. First impressions were very good: the look of the cymbals, the sound is great for their price, free cymbal bag.
But at some point I started to notice that when I'm playing (especially ride) the cymbals are changing heights (while rotating for a little bit). Then I took them off to check, and of course, as I was already expecting, they all were bent on one side. The Hi-Hat Bottom and Ride are especially noticeable. When I put the Hi-Hat cymbals together on top of each other, the hole in the center does not match, there is about 2-3 millimeters difference, so the Bottom Hi-Hat is always overhanging on one side when it's on the hi-hat stand, and also when I put the Bottom Hi-hat on top of the Top Hi-Hat , there is a huge gap between them, and when I do the opposite — no gaps, as it should be.

I don't know, maybe I didn't get the best set, but I think things like that shouldn't happen, and I don’t hit them too hard so they can bend because of that.

Also, there are some fingerprints (from manufacturers?) which are annoying to look at, because I like my cymbals to be clean. And it can't be cleaned with a wipe, need to use special liquid, which I will never use (for obvious reasons). And in general, some strange spots begin to appear, probably due to the metal, but before this happened to me after a couple of years, not months.

In conclusion, I want to say that overall I am disappointed with the purchase. Should have stick to Paiste cymbals, never had any issues with them.

Ein absoluter Glücksgriff sind für mich diese Becken aus B20 Bronze. Obwohl ich in Foren und anderen Testberichten schon viel Positives über dieses Set gelesen habe, bin ich dennoch überrascht, was man für diesen niedrigen Preis hier geboten bekommt.

Alle drei Komponenten des Sets haben mich voll und ganz überzeugt.

Das Crash ist extrem laut (Gehörschutz Pflicht!) und entfaltet ein unglaublich umfangreiches Klangspektrum bei etwas kräftigerem Anschlagen. Alternativen in dieser Preisklasse aus B8 Bronze kommen nicht annähernd an den hellen, durchsetzungsfähigen Sound dieses Materials heran.

Das Ride ist ebenfalls sehr laut und bringt auch eine Menge Sustain mit sich, was es für Rock, Metal und Co. ideal, für ruhigeren Jazz, Blues, usw. allerdings ziemlich ungeeignet macht. Ein klares, durchdringendes Ping rundet das ganze zum optimalen Rock-Ride ab.

Auch die Hihat ist nicht zu überhören und besticht im geschlossenen Zustand durch ein dynamisches "Zack" und stellt damit das billig klingende Klickgeräusch vieler Alternativen aus B8 oder Messing in dieser Preisklasse in den Schatten.
Je weiter sie geöffnet wird, desto stärker entfaltet sich natürlich auch hier das Klangpotential des Materials, ein kräftiges Rauschen ist die Folge.

Wie ein solches Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis zustande kommen kann, ist mir relativ unerklärlich, aber diese Becken sind klingen meiner Meinung nach eindeutig professionell. 100%ige Kaufempfehlung, zumindest für die lauteren Musikstile!

Je suis batteur débutant, mais je voulais une bonne batterie pour équiper la scène d'un bœuf jazz mensuel que nous venons de lancer à Marckolsheim, ainsi que celle de notre festival annuel Marckolswing !

Pour les fûts et le hardware (désolé Thomann pour l'infidélité !), je suis passé par la boutique locale (qui nous prêtait gracieusement une batterie pour le festival depuis 4 ans, tout de même !), mais j'ai décidé de prendre les cymbales chez Thomann.

J'avais écouté différents modèles (très bien, les échantillons audio, bravo ! (continuez ! (plus d'échantillons et ce sera encore mieux ! :-))
Ce set était celui qui me plaisait le plus, après en avoir écouté beaucoup (Sabian, Zildjian, Meinl, Paiste...), je revenais toujours à celui-ci, sans l'ombre d'un doute... si ce n'est que j'hésitais quand même à prendre des cymbales sans les essayer réellement.

Mais il se trouve que parallèlement, j'avais envoyé un email au service "drums" de Thomann, demandant quel serait le set idéal pour moins de 300 € pour notre Gretsch Catalina Club "Jazz" (enfin pas exactement, en fait c'est le modèle avec Toms 10" et 12" et GC de 20", appelé tantôt "club studio" ou "club fusion" selon les revendeurs...) et quand la réponse est arrivée, elle a levé mes doutes : on me préconisait aussi ce set ! (à un peu plus de 300 €)

J'ai donc acheté (presque) les yeux fermés... et je ne suis pas déçu !

Comme je l'ai dit, je suis débutant, donc je peux difficilement faire une description technique poussée de ces cymbales, mais le son est vraiment riche, aussi bien dans la variété de sonorités que l'on peut en tirer que dans la durée de résonnance...
J'ai eu un peu peur au début justement de l'ampleur du son et des résonnances "sombres", mais en en jouant depuis trois semaines matin et soir, je commence à les apprivoiser et je les apprécie beaucoup ! (dans le style jazz/swing, je précise, je ne m'intéresse pas à autre chose ! :-)

Ce que je peux dire aussi, c'est que les différents musiciens qui sont passés depuis à la jam session ont apprécié également.

Je tâcherai de compléter cet avis à l'occasion avec les impressions d'un ami batteur pro... dès qu'il sera passé ! :-)
