I’m really happy with the SL-1200MK7. The build quality is excellent, the direct drive motor is solid and reliable, and the sound is everything you’d expect from a Technics. It feels great to use, from the start/stop to the tonearm.

A big step forward compared to the older Technics models: the cables can finally be unplugged from the back of the turntable instead of being soldered to the chassis. If a cable wears out or gets damaged, you just swap it, with no need to open the deck or take it in for repair. This is great news, especially for anyone who plays out or moves their gear around a lot.

The silver finish looks fantastic and adds a touch of nostalgia. The packaging is also very well made. You can tell there’s a 50-year history behind this product.

The only reason I gave 4 stars for features: I’d love an extended pitch range like the ±50% on the Pioneer PLX-1000. ±8% and ±16% cover most situations, but a wider range would make it even more versatile.

Apart from that, it’s a great turntable and a pleasure to play on. Well done, Technics!
