Yamaha Tenor Sax 5CM

I'm very pleased with this mouthpiece. I upgraded from a plastic 4c and it's made a lot of difference. The tip is neater, the tone is sweeter. The plastic 4c was difficult because the aperture was so small that when applying any decent volume of air the reed would lock shut against the mouthpiece. Now, with the 5CM, that doesn't happen. It is more sensitive so you have to "aim" more precisely with you core, and it's taken some adaptation of my embouchure to be able to confidently hit the lower notes. Even a small change in embouchure affects the tone (which is another reason I wanted it). I've only been playing 3 months and, as you can imagine, trying to think about my fingering, embouchure and breath control all at once yields the occasional wild result, but it feels like a tool that demands a better technique that the 4C, and that is what I wanted and a good thing for a student to face. The mouthpiece is beautifully finished, the upper registers sound like they are coming from the same saxophone and I can't recommend it highly enough for the student who is willing to face it's challenges.
